We are thrilled to announce that Patricia "Patty" Diehlmann will be joining our Maine Indian Education family as our new Director of Special Education!

Meet Our New Director:

Patty brings over a decade of exceptional experience in special education that perfectly aligns with our mission of providing culturally responsive education and individualized support for learners with disabilities. Her impressive background includes:

Extensive Leadership Experience: Currently serving as Special Education Teacher and Case Manager at Washington Academy, where she has successfully led the development and implementation of IEPs and 504s for high school students

Strong Educational Foundation:

  • Educational Specialist degree in Special Education (University of Maine, 2024)

  • Master of Science in Education

  • Master's Certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorders

  • Currently pursuing her 030 Administrator of Special Education endorsement

Proven Track Record: Patty has consistently coordinated multidisciplinary teams, mentored support staff, and maintained compliance with state and federal special education regulations while ensuring students successfully transition to become productive community members

Deep Commitment: Her colleagues describe her as someone with "exceptional commitment to students," bringing "deep experience, compassion, and professionalism" with a "student-centered mindset" and thorough understanding of special education law and compliance.

Important Dates:

  • Wednesday, August 6, 2025: Patty will be here to complete her drug test and fingerprinting

  • Monday, August 11, 2025: Official start date!

Her dedication to equity, inclusive curriculum design, and individualized support perfectly complements our commitment to helping students thrive while honoring their cultural identities.
