Dear Indian Township School Community and Staff,

I am writing to share truly remarkable news about our students' achievements and to express heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has contributed to this success. Our school community has come together in extraordinary ways, and the results speak volumes about what we can accomplish when we work as one.

Our Students Are Excelling!

The latest assessment results reveal outstanding progress that fills us with pride and excitement for our students' futures:

Outstanding Reading Achievement:

  • 63.6% of our 8th graders are now meeting state reading expectations - nearly two-thirds of our students are prepared for high school success

  • 61.5% of our 5th graders are meeting or exceeding reading standards, including one exceptional student who achieved "Above State Expectations"

  • More than half of our 7th graders are meeting state reading standards, demonstrating strong academic momentum

Exceptional Science Growth:

  • Grade 8 science scores improved by an impressive 5.48 points over three years (from 28.33 to 33.82)

  • Students performing at or near proficiency increased from 20% to 36%

  • Students in the "Well Below" category dropped dramatically from 80% to 36%

  • Grade 5 science scores improved by 2.16 points, with our first students reaching the proficiency level

  • These achievements represent more than test scores - they reflect growing confidence, critical thinking skills, and a school culture where every student knows they can succeed.

Thank You to Our Dedicated Staff

To our exceptional teachers: Your innovation, dedication, and belief in every student have made these achievements possible. You have created classrooms where students feel safe to take risks, ask questions, and reach for excellence. Your tireless efforts, creative lessons, and genuine care for our students shine through in these results.

To our support staff: Every day, you create the conditions for learning to flourish. From maintaining our facilities to providing individual student support, from preparing nutritious meals to ensuring safe transportation, your contributions are essential to our success. You are valued members of our educational team.

To our administrators and leadership team: Thank you for fostering an environment where teachers can innovate, students can thrive, and our entire school community feels supported and valued.

Thank You to Our Community

To our families: Your support at home makes all the difference. When you read with your children, help with homework, ask about their day, and show that education matters, you reinforce everything we do at school. Your partnership is invaluable.

To our Tribal leadership and community members: Your investment in education, your presence at school events, and your commitment to our children's future provide the foundation for everything we achieve. Thank you for believing in the power of education to transform lives.

To our volunteers and community partners: Whether you're reading with students, sharing your expertise, or supporting school programs, your contributions enrich our students' educational experience in countless ways.

The Power of Working Together

These results demonstrate what happens when an entire community rallies around its children:

  • Teachers collaborate and share best practices

  • Families reinforce learning at home

  • Students support and encourage each other

  • Community members contribute their time and expertise

  • Everyone celebrates academic achievement

We are also deeply grateful for the support we've received from the Bureau of Indian Education and the Maine Department of Education. Their professional development opportunities, resources, and guidance have strengthened our programs and empowered our educators to reach new heights of excellence.

P.S. Please join us in celebrating these achievements and in continuing to support our students as they reach even greater heights. Every encouraging word, every moment of support, and every expression of pride makes a difference in a child's life
