Dear Indian Township School Community,

I am writing to inform you that Indian Township School is closed for in-person instruction effective immediately. The school will reopen on Monday, March 16, 2026. This action is required because our school has met or exceeded the illness-based absenteeism threshold established by the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC) and the Maine Department of Education (Maine DOE), triggering mandatory outbreak reporting and authorizing closure under applicable state law.

Legal Authority

  • Maine CDC Rules — Control of Notifiable Conditions: Schools must report immediately when ≥15% of the school population is absent due to illness on a single day. This is mandatory, not discretionary.

  • Title 20-A M.R.S. §6356: The Superintendent is authorized to exclude students and staff who present a public health threat and to take all steps necessary to protect the school community.

I recognize the impact this has on families and staff. This action is taken solely to protect the health of our students, our staff, and the broader community we serve. You will be notified directly and promptly when school is cleared to reopen.

Respectfully,

Dolly Barnes

Interim Principal
